This quote is from an October 15, 2025 NPR interview with Donna Shalala about her role in helping resolve the NYC then-debt crisis. Shalala later was HHS Secretary from 1993-2001 and served in numerous high-level positions including US Representative from Florida. The quote is her recollection of visiting the Dallas Athletic Club in 1975. We surely have come a long way. Women used to not be allowed to walk in the front door of the DAC, only the back. Now women can walk in the front door at the DAC, but they still are prohibited from entering the new men-only restaurant opened at the DAC in 12/21.
