A Novel, a Novella, and
Filming an Indie—A Diary of Making Revenge In Kind

by K.C. Bailey

Filming An Indie

A Diary of Making Revenge In Kind
What is like to make a movie? How do you go about it? This diary catalogs the making of the independent film entitled Revenge In Kind, which was shot in Dallas, Texas in 2016. The story is told from the perspective of the author, who was the screenwriter, executive producer, a producer, and director of post-production on the film. The story is full of humor and perspective, with a clear-eyed view of the mistakes and pitfalls of filmmaking. It is entertaining for the non-film buff as well as a useful compendium for other potential indie filmmakers.

Revenge In Kind

Revenge In Kind was first written as a screenplay. One evening when watching a movie with my husband, I left the room when a woman in the story was being assaulted. Later I asked my husband why women were always victimized and never fought back. He challenged me to write the story the way I would like it told, so I did. Years later I made it into a film. Because many of my friends wanted to read it in novel form, I published the story as a novella as well.
Revenge In Kind is available as a novella in paperback and as an e-book at Amazon.com here.

Death For Cause
In the early 1990s, when I was a US Government official and flew back and forth between Washington DC and South America frequently. Often I couldn't sleep and was unable to work because everything I did in those days was classified. So I started writing a short story that I intended to give to colleagues in the Department of Defense who were not convinced, as I was, that we were in great danger of becoming victim to biological weapons. The more hours I flew, the longer the story became. Once it was a novel, I decided to self-publish it. Although I think my writing has much improved in the intervening  25 years, I think the story is still entertaining, powerful, and possible.
Death For Cause is available in paperback and as an e-book at Barnes & Noble here and on Apple Books and Amazon.
